PP=Passion Pit, Not Penis You Perverts

New Passion Pit video out for their first single "The Reeling" off their full-length album Manners, due this May. I'm VERY excited for this album and can not WAIT for the show at Bowery Ballroom on June 20. The video is pretty cool, kind of ultra hipster and the girl is so pretty she makes me want to kill myself, but the song is awesome and I like it when bands decide to still put forth the effort of making a video. They definitely seem to have a thing for obscuring lead singer Michael Angelakos head in their videos as you can tell from their prior video for "Sleepy Head"-Directed by The Wilderness oddly enough. Check it out below and if you haven't listened to their debut Chunk of Change EP yet, get with it please.

Womanizer

Yet another cover of Britney Spears' "Womanizer" has come to the front, proving once again that like her or not, Britney has some damn fine song writers. The latest cover comes from Franz Ferdinand who calls it "the best song out in the last few months." Check out the FF version below and a few other covers from Lily Allen, LadyHawke, and The All American Rejects. Oh and I'm sorry All American Rejects, but you definitely don't do this song better than Britney. Lady Hawke, you may take that prize.

"Well Isn't He Adorable"

Stereogum has these new "Decomposed" sessions now, sort of equivalent to MTV unplugged, but this video from Friendly Fires SEEMS to be plugged in soooo I dunno maybe they just mean INTIMATE. And after watching this video of the song "Paris" who wouldn't want to get intimate with this pouty lipped Brit? How cute are YOU Ed Macfarlane! I'm still in the midst of judging this album and am unsure of exactly how much I like it or if I could even learn to love it, but I know that I DO love this version of the song "Paris" and yes Ed, how did you know I wanted you to move with me to Paris? I will stalk you with a reimbursement form for the plane tickets I purchased very soon.

Bodies of Water: Under the Pines

I was listening to the Stereogum playlist today, hit or miss in general but often some good surprises, and today seemed to be my LUCKY day because the song Under the Pines by Bodies of Water was last on the list. This song took me by surprise with its heavy blast of glory filled guitar and organ backed by Partridge Family-ish vocals. Quite the masterpiece if I do say so. Then I found the VIDEOOOO and Lordy, this is quite the perfect combination of gospel, folklore, blood and Nancy Drew. The video reminds me very much of the Fairy Tale Theater version of Hansel and Gretel, as introduced by Shelley Duvall. There also seems to be a cameo from Creepy Tomas from The Orphanage as well. Check out the video for Under the Pines below, and then watch the first 10 minutes of Fairy Tale Theater and Creepy Tomas and then try to telllll me you don't see any resemblances.

Im'a Feelin me some... Port O'Brien

I recently came across this band via Stereogum. Their music video for "I Woke Up Today" (which you can see at the Stereogum link) was adorable, brightly colored and FULL of Whimsy--GOD do I love me some damn whimsy.

The aforementioned song is also really, really, super catchy and strong from beginning to end. It's kind of like a mix of Arcade Fire and Broken Social Scene to me. Except this time Canada is not involved.

Port O'Brien reside in the Bay Area, but the heavy influence of seafaring references that you will notice i.e. "Fisherman's Son," "Stuck on a Boat," stem from the summer time travels that Vocalist and guitarist Van Pierszalowski experiences when he returns to his roots as an actual Fisherman's son in Kodiak Island in Alaska.

His adorable wife who sings and plays banjo, keyboard, and mandolin, goes north, too, as Head Baker at the Larsen Bay cannery.

Spending so much time apart from each other must also take it's toll, thus is the sad, love-strained life that always makes the best musicians. See: Cuomo, Rivers-- Blue, Pinkerton
