Living on Mars

The show Life on Mars has been filming outside of my apt. on Dean street in Prospect Heights for the past couple of months now. Once a week or so 1970's replica cars line the street and they turn the old folks home into a police precinct, what they do with the old folks though remains a mystery...

Last night I came home and found quite the scene on my block. People were lined up around the corner and giant lights were lifted a hundred feet in the air. I skidded past an actress with really obvious blond hair and had to ask a few people to let me through to my apt. They told me that they were about to blow up a car and I should go inside my apt to get the best view. I sat on the front steps waiting for a while with everyone else but they finally made everyone move away so we didn't get our faces blown off. I went into my apartment and watched the explosion from my bedroom window. It was pretty ridiculous. How they were able to contain it so it didn't hit anything else still boggles my mind, but I am MOST thankful that a flaming steering wheel didn't fly through my open window smacking me in the face.

My BF Franklin took a few pics last night and I tried to video tape it but just as the explosion happened the camera stopped filming. I'm still not sure if I got scared and accidentally pressed the button to stop recording or if the camera just couldn't handle the light from the blaze and shut itself off, but either way it got screwed up. You can check out some more of our pics over at Filming in Brooklyn.
