Michel, Michel

Michel Gondry makes GLORIOUS music videos, like, no duh. Some of the best around probably. He also sometimes makes wonderful movies (forget about Be Kind Rewind please.) In this EW.com feature, Michel Gondry picks his top 25 ultimate, rAdiKAl music videos, and for the most part I have to agree, they are all VERY Gondry-esque and totally strange which makes perfect sense. Most of them are from the 80's when music videos were actually made and people cared about them. There are a few more recent ones thrown in like Bjork "It's Oh So Quiet" and the coup de grĂ¢ce, the most mind boggling music video/rap opera of all time "Trapped In The Closet."

Some of my ultimate fave videos are included as well, i.e. Michael Jackson "Leave me Alone" which features appearances from Bubbles, a dancing Elephant Man skeleton, and Elizabeth Taylor-- pre "Marriageeeeee?!? NOOOOOOO!!" Also that CREEEEPPY Aphex Twin video, so creepy yet you can't turn away!Talking Heads "Burning Down The House"and Beastie Boys "Sabotage."

I'm interested to check out the couple of French videos he chose to represent his native land. If they're anything like the videos he makes then I think we're IN FOR A TREAT!

Some questionable choices: Herbie Hancock "Rockit" ?? I have never seen the video for this song but judging by the photo it's a wild ride:

Also a questionable choice: R. Kelly "Trapped In The Closet," and yes, I know I already listed this under the good. It's both, for the love of GOD, it's BOTH!

Rockit is amazing! I remember watching it as a kid and thinking how crazy all that technology was. It was scaryawesome. Half-bodied robots and strange plasticine faces playing electrojazz. Def must watch if you haven't seen it.

One of my fave vids of all time is Radiohead's "Karma Police." Driverless car hunting down a man on a pitch black country road shot from inside the car. Eerie.

I yapped about the EW's Top 5 TV anthems. Also a good topic. Check it out!

ahha yeahh, after watching it I realized Rock It is that song that's in every 80's TV show/movie EVER. The video, still very strange but awesome.
